Overview

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek (ABC) is a compact yet rewarding high-altitude trek that reaches 4,130m at the Annapurna Sanctuary. The trail blends cultural immersion with dramatic Himalayan scenery, passing Gurung villages, terraced farmlands, bamboo forests, and rhododendron valleys before opening to panoramic views of Annapurna I, Machapuchare, Hiunchuli, and other towering peaks.

This trek is rated moderate in difficulty, with daily walking of 5–7 hours across varied terrain. Good physical fitness and prior hiking experience are recommended

Highlights

  • Standing at the base camp places you directly at the foot of the massive Annapurna I (8,091m), Machapuchare (Fishtail), and Hiunchuli, completely surrounding you with snow and ice.
  • Before reaching ABC, you stay or pass through MBC (3,700m), offering a close-up, dramatic view of the sacred, unclimbed "Fishtail" mountain peak.
  • A relaxing highlight on the return route where you can soak your tired muscles in natural riverside hot springs along the Modi Khola.
  • The trail shifts dramatically from lush, subtropical rhododendron and bamboo jungles in the lower valleys to a rugged, frozen alpine landscape as you climb higher.
