Langtang region
The Langtang Region lies just north of Kathmandu, making it the closest major trekking area to the capital and the easiest Himalayan trek to start without a domestic flight. Langtang Valley is often called “the valley of glaciers,” surrounded by Langtang Lirung (7,227 m) and a ring of snow peaks on the Nepal–Tibet border.
The trail passes through oak and rhododendron forests, traditional Tamang villages like Syabrubesi and Kyanjin Gompa, and yak pastures that feel untouched by mass tourism. The region is also home to Gosainkunda, a sacred alpine lake at 4,380 m visited during the Janai Purnima festival, and the Helambu valley known for its Hyolmo culture.
Popular treks: Langtang Valley Trek, Gosainkunda Trek, Helambu Trek, Langtang–Gosainkunda–Helambu Combo, and the Tamang Heritage Trail.
