You leave Kathmandu before dawn, drive just over an hour through waking villages and winding roads, and arrive at Nagarkot as the sky begins to lighten. From the view tower at 2,175 meters, the Himalayas unroll across the northern horizon. On a clear morning, you can see Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Gaurishankar, and even the distant outline of Everest. What This Day Hike Looks Like

Your day starts early. We pick you up from your hotel in Kathmandu between 4:30 and 5:00 AM. The drive to Nagarkot takes about an hour to an hour and a half, depending on traffic. As the city fades behind you and the road climbs toward the ridge, the air gets cooler and the sky starts to lighten.

You arrive at Nagarkot View Tower just in time for sunrise. From 2,175 meters, the entire Himalayan range stretches across the horizon. On clear mornings, you can see Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Gaurishankar, and even Everest. This is why people come to Nagarkot. You’ll have time to take photos, breathe in the mountain air, and just stand there for a moment.

After sunrise, you have breakfast at a local lodge in Nagarkot village. Coffee, eggs, something warm – fuel for the walk ahead. Then, around 8:00 to 8:30 AM, the hike begins.

The trail starts from the road south of the Nagarkot View Tower. You follow the ridge for the first kilometre, then the trail branches onto a footpath that descends through open hillside with wide views of the Bhaktapur Valley below.

The first significant stop is Tusal village, a small Tamang settlement about 45 minutes from the start. The houses here are built in the traditional Tamang style – stone walls, small vegetable plots around the front. You might see local farmers working their terraced fields. This is rural Nepal, untouched and unhurried.
