The Thamdanda Trek is a short and gentle introduction to the Annapurna region, perfect for travelers with limited time or those seeking a relaxed Himalayan experience. Located just above Pokhara, this trek offers stunning panoramic views of the Annapurna range, Machapuchare (Fishtail), and the lush green hills surrounding the Pokhara Valley. The trail passes through traditional Gurung and Magar villages, terraced farmlands, and serene forests, providing a cultural and natural escape just a short distance from the lakeside city.
This trek is rated easy, with daily walking of 3–5 hours on well-maintained trails. It is suitable for beginners, families with children, and those looking for a quick nature getaway.
Best Time to Trek:
Spring (March–May): Pleasant temperatures, blooming rhododendrons, and clear mountain views.
Autumn (September–November): Stable weather, crystal-clear skies, and spectacular visibility. Ideal season.
Winter (December–February): Cool and crisp mornings with clear views; nights can be cold but manageable.
Monsoon (June–August): Possible but with occasional rainfall; leeches may be present on lower trails.
Day 1
Drive Pokhara to Phedi – Trek to Thamdanda (1,750m)
A short drive from Pokhara to Phedi marks the beginning of the trek. The trail ascends gradually through stone staircases, passing through villages and lush forests. The walk offers beautiful views of the Pokhara Valley and surrounding hills before arriving at Thamdanda.
Day 2
Thamdanda – Explore Surroundings – Return to Thamdanda
A relaxed day to explore the local villages, interact with the Gurung community, and enjoy the serene mountain views. Short walks to nearby viewpoints offer uninterrupted vistas of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machapuchare.
Day 3
Thamdanda – Phedi – Drive to Pokhara
Descend back through forests and villages to Phedi, enjoying the lush landscapes and distant mountain views. A short drive returns you to Pokhara.
Carrying the right gear is essential for safety and comfort. Pack light but don’t leave out the basics. Porters carry the bulk load; trekkers carry daypacks.
