The Ghorepani Trek, also known as the Poon Hill Trek, is one of the most popular short treks in the Annapurna region. This 4-day journey offers a perfect introduction to Himalayan trekking, combining stunning sunrise views from Poon Hill with cultural encounters in traditional Gurung and Magar villages. The trail winds through dense rhododendron forests, terraced farmlands, and offers close-up views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machapuchare (Fishtail), and Dhaulagiri.

This trek is rated easy to moderate, with daily walking of 4–6 hours on well-maintained trails. It is suitable for beginners, families, and those with limited time.

Best Time to Trek:

  • Spring (March–May): Rhododendron forests in full bloom, mild temperatures, clear mountain views.

  • Autumn (September–November): Crisp, clear skies, stable weather, and spectacular visibility. Peak season.

  • Winter (December–February): Cold temperatures, especially at night; trails are quieter with occasional snowfall at higher elevations.

  • Monsoon (June–August): Not recommended due to slippery trails, leeches, and limited mountain views.

Day 1
Drive Pokhara to Nayapul – Trek to Ulleri (1,960m)

A scenic drive from Pokhara to Nayapul marks the starting point. The trek begins along the Modi River, passing through terraced fields and traditional villages. A steep stone staircase leads to the overnight stop in Ulleri.

Day 2
Ulleri – Ghorepani (2,860m)

Ascend through dense oak and rhododendron forests, with occasional glimpses of snow-capped peaks. The trail gradually climbs to the bustling village of Ghorepani, a hub for trekkers.

Day 3
Poon Hill (3,210m) – Trek to Tadapani (2,630m)

An early morning hike to Poon Hill rewards trekkers with one of the most spectacular sunrise panoramas in the Himalayas, featuring Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. After sunrise, descend to Ghorepani for breakfast and continue through forests to Tadapani.

Day 4
Tadapani – Ghandruk – Drive to Pokhara

Descend through rhododendron forests to the picturesque Gurung village of Ghandruk, known for its rich cultural heritage and museum. From Ghandruk, a short drive returns you to Pokhara.
